Bob & Gayle's last few days in Dubai were, let's say, eventful.
No matter how many people you ask in Dubai, they all say it never rains, "it the desert!". But come January, after a week of rain, everyone remembers that every year it rains and reeks havoc in Dubai. Especially for those who live in the Springs.
On Monday night, we had jsut gone to bed and Bob was firing off one last e-mail, when our dishwasher error chime went off, followed by a large bang. Our initial thoughts were either that Bob broke the dishwasher, fell or dropped something. In hindsight, all of the above would have been better. Unfortunately, the big bang was our electrical box blowing.
After many visits from the maintenance/electrical guys, whom were very comical, we believe that there was a hole in the roof, where previous tenants had fed cable lines into the home that was left uncovered. It also happened that the lines were fed right next to our electrical boxes, hence the loss of power.
It took 5 days to get it repaired and all our power back on -I beleive the roof repair was only a temporary fix, so before next January, we will have to get it done properly. Fun. :)
Ground Level -Water was leaking from the ceiling, in to the box and on to the floor. We had a centimeter of water in our hallway and into our living room.
Some of the blown fuses.
Our home by candle light and camera flash. Our new rug got soaked.
Gayle preparing dinner by petzl.
Candlelit dinner. With no power, we had a slad and cold leftovers.
